OVER 200 CANDIDATES FACE DISQUALIFICATION OVER VOTE-BUYING, RESOURCE ABUSE

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued show cause orders to 213 candidates and party-list groups over alleged vote-buying and misuse of government resources ahead of the midterm elections.

Among those flagged are high-profile figures such as Rep. Camille Villar, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, and her rivals Isko Moreno and Sam Versoza.

The Comelec’s Kontra Bigay committee found 130 cases related to vote buying and 67 involving the abuse of state resources.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia stressed the non-partisan nature of the probe and vowed to pursue disqualification and election offense cases if warranted.

Vice President Sara Duterte, despite endorsing some of the accused, warned voters in Bohol against transactional politics and urged them to choose leaders wisely.
