NEW BILLS AIM TO BALANCE DRUG ENFORCEMENT WITH REHABILITATION

Senator Bong Go has filed Senate Bills 665 and 683, promoting a comprehensive approach to combating drug abuse through rehabilitation and reintegration.

SB 665 proposes establishing Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers in every region, supervised by the Department of Health, while SB 683 aims to simplify the admission process for individuals seeking rehabilitation.

Go emphasized the need to treat drug dependents as victims who deserve medical, psychological, and spiritual support to reintegrate into society.

Citing 2024 data from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Go highlighted the seizure of ₱21.43 billion worth of illegal drugs and the arrest of over 51,000 individuals.

He stressed that these figures justify the creation of a strong, accessible rehabilitation system nationwide.
