The Cebu City Council has nominated lawyer Mikel Francisco Rama to fill the vacant council seat left by newly appointed Vice Mayor Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros.
Councilor Philip Zafra praised Mikel’s legal expertise and public service background, emphasizing that he has learned from his father, former Mayor Michael Rama, who served the city for over three decades.
Hontiveros officially assumed the vice mayor position on October 11, following Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia’s ascension to full mayor on October 9 after Michael Rama’s dismissal due to allegations of nepotism and grave misconduct.
The vacancy created by Hontiveros will be filled through a presidential appointment, as required for independent candidates, and the nomination has been forwarded to the Office of the President for review.
Mikel Rama has also filed his candidacy for councilor in the 2025 elections, seeking to align with his father’s coalition in the council.
