Silvestre Bello III is stepping down as chairman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), with former Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil set to replace him.
The MECO board, comprised of seven members, will convene today to formally nominate Garafil as the new chair. The Federation of Filipino Communities in Taiwan praised Bello for his “effective leadership” during his two-year tenure, highlighting his efforts in addressing the needs and concerns of Filipinos in Taiwan while promoting their rights and welfare.
They noted that his work has significantly enhanced the quality of life for individuals and strengthened cultural ties between the Philippines and Taiwan.
Additionally, the Filipino Community Association in Central Taiwan commended Bello for making MECO’s services more accessible to overseas Filipino workers and migrants.
