MAYOR ALEGADO FACES CONTEMPT CHARGES FOR BLOCKING ACCESS TO FOODA PROPERTY

Consolacion Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado has been found guilty of indirect contempt by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for failing to comply with court orders to remove barricades blocking access to Fooda Saversmart’s leased property.

The dispute started in June 2023 after Fooda filed a petition following Alegado’s disregard of two court orders issued in May 2023.

Despite the court’s ruling and follow-up order, Alegado’s office failed to remove the obstructions, including a galvanized iron fence and welded roll-up doors.

Alegado argued her actions were aligned with municipal resolutions, but the court disagreed, ordering her custody until the barriers were removed.

Alegado intends to file a motion for reconsideration and is exploring legal options to reverse the decision.
