MARCOS REITERATES PHILIPPINES’ COMMITMENT TO UPHOLDING HUMANITARIAN LAW

President Marcos emphasized the Philippines’ crucial role in promoting international humanitarian law during a meeting with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger at Malacañan Palace.

He stressed that upholding humanitarian law depends on national governments’ commitment to turning international agreements into local policies that protect vulnerable populations.

The two leaders discussed the Philippines’ leadership in ASEAN and its efforts to foster peace and dialogue in the Asia-Pacific region.

The meeting followed the recent International Humanitarian Law Asia Pacific Regional Conference in Manila, where the Philippines shared its experience in establishing a permanent national IHL committee.

The ICRC, which has partnered with the Philippines since World War II, continues to provide humanitarian assistance and promote respect for humanitarian law in the country.
