President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he is ready to certify the proposed Agriculture Cooperatives Act of 2025 as urgent to accelerate support for Filipino farmers and fisherfolk.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Francis Pangilinan and other stakeholders.
The bill aims to strengthen agricultural cooperatives, helping farmers collectively purchase inputs, process products, and secure better market prices to boost productivity and profitability.
It forms part of broader reforms, including the Agricom Act and the Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Act, designed to raise farmers’ incomes and improve agricultural services nationwide.
The Marcos administration is also reviewing amendments to the Rice Tariffication Law to better safeguard local farmers amid liberalized rice imports.
