Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro and First District Rep. Marcy Teodoro highlighted the city’s flood control efforts during an inspection by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon at the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project on March 4.
The Teodoros showcased initiatives such as the ongoing dredging and widening of the Marikina River, designed to increase water flow and reduce flood risks.
Coordination with the Wawa Dam Authority and a whole-of-government approach ensure that local and national projects, including drainage systems, are integrated for efficient water management.
Mayor Teodoro noted that Marikina’s flood mapping and mitigation strategy have prevented major flooding in recent years and expressed hope that remaining projects will be completed before the rainy season.
Secretary Dizon praised Marikina’s best practices and emphasized the importance of retention basins, no-build zones, and parks to manage floodwaters effectively.
