The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will step up operations against illegal public transport terminals, deploying “mystery passengers” to monitor compliance.
The agency noted that these terminals are often unsafe, substandard, and lack proper facilities for vulnerable passengers, and that they also serve as hubs for colorum vehicles.
LTFRB Chief Vigor Mendoza II warned that passengers using unregistered vehicles face no insurance coverage in case of accidents, and operators of illegal terminals could face criminal liability.
Inspections will cover terminals in roadside areas, malls, and other establishments, with random and surprise checks conducted nationwide.
Drivers are urged to use only LTFRB-accredited terminals, or risk suspension or revocation of their franchises, as the agency coordinates with other government bodies to enforce compliance.
