Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito urged the Commission on Audit (COA) to thoroughly investigate its resident auditors’ alleged involvement in the controversial multi-billion-peso flood control projects.
During a budget hearing, Ejercito raised concerns about possible collusion between COA auditors and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), especially in Bulacan and Mindoro.
While no formal charges have been filed, Ejercito stressed that auditors who ignored red flags must still be held accountable.
COA Chairperson Gamaliel Cordoba assured that the agency’s Fraud Audit Office is already investigating the matter and will submit findings soon.
Ejercito also praised COA’s use of geo-tagging technology to prevent falsified reports and expressed hope that these efforts will restore public trust in government auditing.
