Former President Rodrigo Duterte has expanded his legal team for his International Criminal Court (ICC) case by appointing renowned international lawyer Dov Jacobs as an assistant counsel.
The ICC Pre-Trial Chamber confirmed Jacobs’ appointment on April 7, following a request from Duterte’s lead attorney, Nicholas Kaufman, on April 2.
Jacobs, with 15 years of experience in international law and human rights, has worked on high-profile cases at the ICC, including those involving Laurent Gbagbo and Mahamat Said.
Duterte faces charges of crimes against humanity for his alleged role in extrajudicial killings linked to the Davao Death Squad and his anti-drug campaign, which reportedly caused thousands of deaths.
The legal team’s expansion comes as Duterte’s controversial anti-drug efforts, which led to a government-reported death toll of 6,000, continue to attract significant international scrutiny.
