Incoming DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro assured that the Philippines will maintain continuity in its diplomacy and foreign policy with China, particularly regarding maritime disputes.
Speaking at an event marking 50 years of Philippine-China relations, Lazaro emphasized the importance of focusing on positive people-to-people ties while continuing bilateral discussions on political and maritime issues.
She acknowledged the challenges but stressed the need to move forward in the relationship.
Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian welcomed her appointment, highlighting her strong communication with Chinese officials.
Lazaro is set to assume her post on July 31, ahead of the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2026.
