Senator Imee Marcos warned that after failed efforts to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, “political forces” are now pushing a “Plan C” to use the Office of the Ombudsman to disqualify or jail her before the 2028 elections.
Marcos claimed that Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla’s bid to replace retired Ombudsman Samuel Martires is part of this plan, alleging it would weaponize the office against Duterte despite pending complaints against him.
She vowed to block his nomination before the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), citing rules barring nominees with unresolved criminal cases.
Remulla, however, insisted his actions in Duterte’s arrest were lawful under RA 9851 and said he would move to resolve Marcos’ complaint.
He also promised, if appointed, to reverse Martires’ restrictive rules on public access to officials’ Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs).
