Health officials in Iloilo have renewed their call for early medical consultation amid a spike in dengue cases and deaths, which have risen to 11 this year compared to six during the same period last year.
The most recent fatality was a 27-year-old woman from San Rafael who sought treatment only after developing severe complications.
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office emphasized that early symptoms like high fever and vomiting should prompt immediate medical attention to reduce risks of severe illness.
As of July 12, the province recorded 2,927 dengue cases, with 247 new infections in one week—a 20.8% increase from last year.
With hospital beds still available but filling up, officials also urged residents to follow the “4S” strategy to prevent further spread during the rainy season.
