Leaders from the House of Representatives have expressed their sorrow over the passing of former Lanao del Sur Governor Soraya Alonto Adiong, who died on Friday at the age of 80.
Adiong, who would have celebrated her 81st birthday on January 7, 2025, played a crucial role during the 2017 Marawi Siege, working closely with the military and national agencies to protect lives and restore resilience.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez praised her leadership, highlighting her compassion and hands-on approach to bridging the gap between the provincial government and its people.
Adiong’s children include Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong and Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. House leaders described her as a “true mother” to Lanao del Sur, whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
