Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said he plans to take a more active role in overseeing government spending and addressing underutilized funds in 2026.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, he stressed that oversight should extend beyond the budget season and continue year-round.
Gatchalian cited key programs, such as irrigation systems, as priorities for monitoring, noting that some projects have been poorly implemented or underfunded.
The committee intends to conduct weekly oversight activities, both in the Senate and in the field, to ensure proper execution of government programs.
He also highlighted the importance of the Joint Congressional Oversight on Public Expenditure in tracking fund usage and ensuring that government spending is efficiently implemented.
