Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco on Feb. 4 ordered the removal of all materials bearing her image and instructed regional offices and local government units to stop producing similar content following criticism that the materials were seen as “self-promotion.”
She emphasized that the move aims to prevent controversy and keep the focus on tourism issues, noting that she never authorized the display of her photo.
The issue arose during a Senate Committee on Tourism hearing, where slides showed magazines and promotional materials featuring her image, prompting concerns that campaigns should highlight destinations, not officials.
Frasco dismissed the allegations, saying her visibility reflects her work and not personal promotion, and clarified she has no plans to run for any national post.
She also highlighted that the DOT maintains separate corporate and marketing platforms to ensure transparency while promoting Philippine tourism.
