The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) emphasized France as a strong partner in advancing shared maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific during a meeting between PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan and French Ambassador Maria Fontanel.
They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and updates on the PCG’s acquisition of 40 fast patrol crafts from French shipbuilder OCEA to boost maritime security.
The vessels, supported by a government-to-government financing agreement, will enhance patrol capabilities across the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone and improve response to threats like illegal fishing and piracy.
Half of the patrol crafts will be locally built, promoting self-reliance and supporting the domestic maritime industry.
The project also includes a nine-year logistics plan to ensure long-term maintenance and operational readiness.
