The Mongolian aviation student arrested in Zambales is actually a licensed jet fighter pilot in the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, according to National Security Adviser Eduardo Año.
Authorities suspect his presence in the Philippines was intended to gather intelligence near Zambales and the West Philippine Sea, which are home to vital military sites.
The student concealed his military background and fighter pilot license, violating Philippine immigration laws.
Data seized from him reportedly included photos of airports and land and water systems in the area.
Año emphasized that the government will enforce laws against any misrepresentation or activity threatening national security while continuing coordination among intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
