A grass fire broke out on Mt. Kabunian in Bakun, Benguet, on Maundy Thursday, prompting the rescue of 18 hikers.
The blaze started around 6:50 p.m., affecting both the summit and the foot trail.
Eleven hikers and two guides were at the summit, while seven tourists and one guide were stranded at Station 12.
Emergency responders, including the fire bureau, police, barangay officials, and tour guides, rescued the hikers at the foot trail by 2:45 a.m. on Good Friday.
The remaining hikers at the summit were safely evacuated via an alternate route through Bulisay in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya.
