House representatives, including ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio and Kabataan Party-list Rep. Atty. Renee Louise Co, have expressed dismay over Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez’s “doxxing” of journalists seeking his comment on allegations related to flood control projects.
They condemned his actions, stating that journalists were simply performing their duty to ensure balanced reporting and should not be subjected to personal threats.
Co highlighted the broader implications of disclosing personal information, which she argued constitutes a direct threat to media workers.
The Makabayan bloc emphasized that journalists were exercising their democratic right to seek comments from public officials, and pointed out the irony of the attack on Press Freedom Day.
In response, the bloc reaffirmed its commitment to protecting press freedom, with Co noting the filing of the Campus Press Freedom bill to safeguard student journalists.
