Former Comelec commissioner Luie Tito Guia has called on candidates in the midterm elections to disclose the sources of their campaign funds, including expenses for advertisements placed before the official campaign period.
Guia emphasized the importance of transparency, urging the public to question candidates on why they spend exorbitant amounts for a position with relatively modest pay.
He criticized current election laws that allow unchecked pre-campaign spending, limiting fair competition among candidates.
Meanwhile, former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson withdrew from the 2025 senatorial race due to health concerns, leaving 66 candidates in contention.
The Philippine National Police has also implemented 6,327 checkpoints nationwide as part of the election gun ban.
