Albuera Mayor Kerwin Espinosa surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday following a non-bailable murder charge issued by the Cebu City Regional Trial Court.
The warrant of arrest also names four other individuals, and Espinosa reportedly turned himself in along with two of the co-accused.
In a video message, he asked his followers to pray for his safety and protection.
Espinosa, elected mayor of Albuera, Leyte, in 2025, previously gained notoriety after being linked by former President Duterte to the Eastern Visayas illegal drug trade alongside his late father, Rolando Espinosa Sr.
He had also made and later withdrew allegations against former senator Leila de Lima regarding drug activities in the New Bilibid Prison.
