Presidential legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile criticized the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) for its rally supporting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s opposition to Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment, warning against undermining constitutional processes.
Enrile emphasized that impeachment is a legal mechanism to hold officials accountable and urged the public to value the rule of law over group interests.
The INC rally drew nearly 2 million participants and called for unity, though church leaders denied political motivations.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin defended Marcos’ position, stating the President values diverse views but remains firm in opposing impeachment efforts.
Meanwhile, Duterte faces three impeachment complaints over alleged fund mismanagement.
