DUTERTE FACES PRESSURE TO STEP DOWN OVER BUDGET ISSUES IN OVP

Assistant House Majority Leader and Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon called for Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation, criticizing her absence during a House plenary hearing on the 2025 budget for the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

Bongalon expressed frustration, stating that her failure to defend the budget implied a lack of interest in her responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker David Suarez echoed concerns from House members, emphasizing the need for agency heads to engage in the budget process.

Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano urged Duterte to attend the hearing for the sake of the Filipino people.

In response, the OVP clarified that Duterte’s absence was due to an official trip to Bicol, where she was engaging with constituents.
