DILG EXAMINES RULES GOVERNING TRAVEL OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will review policies on government-funded travel for local officials, including Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) members, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced.

This move follows criticism over an SK-funded trip by Manila youth officials to Thailand, which netizens labeled a junket.

Remulla emphasized that all government-funded travel must have a legitimate purpose and suggested updating rules to clarify fund sources and required clearances.

He also shared that during his time as Cavite governor, he never allowed overseas training programs, calling them unnecessary.

The DILG plans to issue a memorandum circular to set clearer guidelines and address concerns over the misuse of public funds for travel.
