The Department of Agriculture (DA) aims to fully implement the P20-per-kilo rice program nationwide in 2026, targeting 15 million households.
The initiative, currently operating in all 82 provinces with over 400 selling sites, seeks to make rice more affordable while ensuring fair palay prices for farmers.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said balancing low consumer prices with sufficient farm-gate income is the DA’s most urgent challenge.
The program is supported by a temporary freeze on rice imports and continued palay purchases by the National Food Authority.
In addition, the DA will manage P33 billion in farm-to-market road projects, aiming for transparent, high-quality implementation at lower costs.
