PCG MONITORS SUNKEN TUGBOAT FOR POSSIBLE OIL SPILL

A tugboat that ran aground near the mouth of Bucao River in Botolan, Zambales, submerged Monday while salvage operations were underway.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) immediately responded and coordinated efforts to assess the situation and prevent possible hazards from the sunken vessel.

Authorities are particularly monitoring the possibility of oil or hazardous-material spills that could affect the surrounding environment.

The cause of the grounding and whether anyone was injured or affected remain under investigation.

The PCG continues to monitor the vessel, environmental conditions and the safety of nearby residents while salvage operations and the investigation continue.
