The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a show-cause order to Senator Francis Escudero over a P30-million campaign donation he received from a government contractor during the May 2022 elections.
The donation came from Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc., who admitted to giving the funds.
Escudero has denied violating any election laws and is ready to prove his innocence at the scheduled hearing on October 13.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia warned that if found guilty, both the donor and Escudero could face imprisonment and permanent disqualification from public office.
The case involves alleged violations of the Omnibus Election Code, which prohibits candidates from accepting campaign contributions from government contractors.
