The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified 1,239 areas as election hotspots for the 2025 midterm elections, including 38 high-risk areas under the red category.
These areas have been classified based on the level of security concerns, ranging from peaceful (green) to grave threats (red), with the majority of red zones located in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will deploy additional personnel, especially in BARMM, to address security threats.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia noted that the list may change as the official campaign period begins on January 12.
The military and police forces are preparing for possible escalation in the identified high-risk areas.
