The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has upheld the disqualification of former congressman Edgar Erice from running for the Caloocan City 2nd District post in the May 2025 elections due to his continued criticism of the automated election system (AES).
In its 30-page decision, Comelec emphasized that Erice’s actions undermined the integrity of the electoral process, which is vital to democracy.
The ruling highlighted that Erice’s attempts to discredit the AES and spread false reports were detrimental to public trust in the elections.
The decision followed a petition filed by Raymond Salipot, accusing Erice of deliberately spreading misleading information.
Comelec stressed that such conduct could not be tolerated, as it threatened the sanctity of the electoral process.
