Olympic gymnastics champion Carlos Yulo will be limited to competing in only one apparatus at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president, Cynthia Carrion, revealed this new rule restricts each gymnast to just one event, a reduction from previous games.
Yulo, a double-gold winner at the Paris Olympics, was expected to contend for gold in all six apparatuses, but the rule change hinders that possibility.
This restriction follows a similar limitation at the last SEA Games in Cambodia, where gymnasts were limited to two events each.
Despite the setback, Carrion expressed confidence that the Philippine team would still aim to win medals in other events.
