BRP DIEGO SILANG OFFICIALLY JOINS PHILIPPINE NAVY FLEET

The Philippine Navy formally commissioned its second Miguel Malvar-class frigate, BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07), on December 2 at the Naval Operating Base Subic to boost maritime security and rapid response capabilities.

The 3,200-ton frigate features multi-mission systems, including anti-surface, anti-air, and anti-submarine warfare, advanced electronic equipment, and a range of 4,500 nautical miles.

Equipped with C-Star anti-ship missiles, VL MICA surface-to-air missiles, a 76mm main gun, and 3D AESA radar, the ship enhances the PN’s capacity for joint operations, maritime domain awareness, and humanitarian assistance.

BRP Diego Silang, built by South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries under the AFP modernization program, arrived in the Philippines in September and is commanded by Captain John Percie Alcos.

Together with its sister ship BRP Miguel Malvar, it represents the most advanced vessels in the PN fleet, supporting longer deployments and continuous patrols, particularly in contested areas like the West Philippine Sea.
