DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla has identified the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as the most corrupt agency under his department, surpassing even the Philippine National Police.
He revealed widespread corruption, involving personnel from rank-and-file firemen to the bureau chief, including illegal recruitment fees of up to P500,000 per applicant.
Remulla also cited corrupt practices in inspection fees and the sale of fire extinguishers.
He announced that identified corrupt BFP officials will be removed starting in January.
The secretary rejected the bureau’s proposal to require all homes to have fire extinguishers, citing concerns over misuse and corruption.
