The government’s Animal Welfare Supervision and Accreditation Program will receive an initial P10 million under the 2026 national budget, Senator Kiko Pangilinan announced.
The funding aims to professionalize animal welfare enforcement and support legitimate organizations that care for rescued and sheltered animals.
Pangilinan said the allocation is the result of years of work to strengthen animal protection laws and ensure fair, consistent enforcement.
He highlighted the program’s goal of expanding animal welfare initiatives while backing accredited rescuers on the ground.
The announcement comes amid continuing cases of animal abuse, underscoring the need for stronger oversight and protection measures.
