The United States announced $55 million in new funding to boost maritime law enforcement in the Philippines and other Indo-Pacific countries.
The announcement followed a September 25 meeting on maritime security attended by over 35 nations, including the Philippines, Australia, Japan, and the UK.
The funding aims to help counter illegal maritime activities, protect freedom of navigation, and safeguard critical shipping lanes and infrastructure.
This aid builds on the $1.5 billion the US has provided for Indo-Pacific maritime security since 2017.
A key focus for the Philippines is enhancing the ability of Filipino fishermen to monitor and report unauthorized vessels in its waters.
