17 CANDIDATES VIE FOR SUPREME COURT JUSTICE POST AHEAD OF LOPEZ’S RETIREMENT

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has announced 17 applicants vying for the position of Supreme Court (SC) associate justice, which will become vacant following the retirement of Justice Mario Lopez on June 4. 

The applicants include Court of Appeals (CA) justices, Sandiganbayan justices, and other prominent legal figures such as SC Court Administrator Raul Villanueva and UP Law Dean Darlene Berberabe.

Public interviews for the candidates will be held on May 14, 15, 16, and 21, with the JBC allowing the public to submit complaints or opposition until May 9. 

Notable applicants include CA Presiding Justice Fernanda Lampas-Peralta and Sandiganbayan Justices Karl Miranda and Ronald Moreno. 

The JBC will conduct the interviews at the SC or CA Session Hall.
