As the May 2025 midterm elections approach, law enforcement has identified 16 election hotspots in Central Visayas, prompting increased security measures.
Police Regional Office (PRO-7) Director BGen. Redrico Maranan outlined strategies to ensure a peaceful election, including securing polling precincts, protecting Comelec personnel and candidates, and safeguarding election infrastructure.
A major focus will be on combating vote buying and securing election materials to prevent fraud.
Maranan also addressed the security concerns in Negros Oriental, where 200 additional officers will be deployed, and noted the presence of a private armed group, “The Teves Group.”
Authorities assured the public that heightened security measures, including close monitoring of hotspots and collaboration with local government officials, are in place to maintain order.
