The UAAP has suspended University of the East (UE) guard Wello Lingolingo for three games following his unsportsmanlike foul that resulted in La Salle guard Kean Baclaan’s season-ending MCL injury during their intense matchup on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
League officials classified the infraction as an Unsportsmanlike Foul – Criteria 2 for “excessive and forceful contact,” after Lingolingo dove for the ball and landed on Baclaan’s right knee with 4:21 left in regulation.
Lingolingo, who had earlier been called for a technical foul for flopping, was ejected from the game, which La Salle narrowly won in overtime, 111–110. Baclaan, who transferred from National University last season, was diagnosed with a torn MCL after an MRI, cutting short his debut season with the Green Archers.
UE coach Chris Gavina expressed frustration over the officiating but was not penalized for his remarks.
