TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BILL GAINING SUPPORT FOLLOWING INCREASED ROAD ACCIDENTS

Senator Grace Poe has renewed her call for the urgent passage of the transportation safety bill due to the increasing number of road accidents.

Poe emphasized that the rising fatalities and injuries from preventable accidents highlight the need for stronger measures to ensure safety.

She authored Senate Bill No. 1121, which proposed the creation of the Philippine Transportation Safety Board to investigate transportation-related incidents.

Poe stressed the importance of educating drivers about traffic laws and road conditions, with free training opportunities for public utility drivers through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa warned about the growing number of child and youth fatalities in road crashes, citing a 25.6% annual increase in such incidents.
