After more than a decade of supernatural scares, the “Conjuring” Universe is closing with its ninth and final installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which opens nationwide today.
Producers James Wan and Peter Safran, who launched the franchise in 2013, reflected on its unexpected success as the highest-grossing horror movie series in history.
Both described the finale as “bittersweet,” celebrating the films’ impact while acknowledging it marks the end of an era.
Wan credited stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who play real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, as the emotional core of the series and a major reason for its enduring popularity.
Directed by Michael Chaves, the new film reunites the pair for one final case based on real events.
