Typhoon Tino destroyed over 53,000 hectares of sugarcane plantations in the Visayas, causing an estimated P1.2 billion in damages and displacing 16,000 farmers, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) reported.
The hardest-hit areas include the fourth and fifth districts of Negros Occidental, Biscom, La Carlota, San Carlos, and Sagay-Danao, where mills also halted operations temporarily.
SRA chief Pablo Azcona said production is expected to drop by 500,000 bags of raw sugar and molasses, and the agency has begun procuring fertilizers to aid recovery.
Meanwhile, Pangasinan declared a state of calamity after Super Typhoon Uwan affected over 200,000 families, allowing local authorities to tap disaster funds for relief.
The province reported P500 million in agricultural damage and P176 million in infrastructure losses, with preemptive evacuations credited for preventing casualties.
