Senate President Vicente Sotto III said he will act “forthwith” on any impeachment complaint sent to the Senate for trial, amid speculation that both President Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte could face complaints this year.
Sotto emphasized that the chamber will follow proper procedures once a complaint is officially transmitted, noting past delays under his predecessor, Francis Escudero.
House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Edgar Erice revealed that an impeachment complaint against Marcos is being prepared by Duterte allies on grounds of alleged betrayal of public trust, particularly concerning the 2023-2025 budgets.
Meanwhile, the Makabayan bloc plans to refile a complaint against Vice President Duterte on February 6, criticizing lawmakers who condition their support on developments in the flood control scandal.
Sotto, however, stressed that the Senate’s role is procedural, and any action will depend on whether complaints are formally endorsed and transmitted by the House.
