Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile made a final visit to the Senate on November 19 for a necrological service honoring his decades-long political career.
Senate President Tito Sotto and other senators paid tribute to Enrile, highlighting his mentorship, influence, and six decades of public service.
Sen. Jinggoy Estrada recalled Enrile’s guidance during pivotal moments in Philippine history, including the second EDSA uprising, while former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo described him as a respected “legend” despite political differences.
Enrile’s legacy is marked by both influence and controversy, notably his role in Martial Law under Ferdinand Marcos Sr., which drew criticism from human rights groups and survivors.
He is set to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on November 22.
