The Makabayan bloc and allied opposition groups will refile their impeachment complaint against President Marcos today after last week’s submission was delayed due to the absence of the receiving official.
The complaint, backed by various sectors including workers, farmers, students, and anti-corruption advocates, cites systemic corruption, abuse of discretionary funds, and involvement in kickback schemes.
This is the second impeachment filing, following one by lawyer Andre de Jesus, while a third attempt by Mike Defensor and Luis “Chavit” Singson also failed last week.
House officials stressed that Garafil’s absence abroad does not stop the constitutional process, and all complaints will be handled according to established rules, including referral to the Committee on Justice.
Opposition lawmakers emphasized that the legitimacy of impeachment depends on the integrity of the process, not just its outcome.
