SC SET TO TACKLE PHILHEALTH FUND DISPUTE; SEN. GO URGES ACCOUNTABILITY

Senator Bong Go praised the Supreme Court for considering action on petitions opposing the P89.9 billion transfer of PhilHealth funds to the national treasury, ahead of oral arguments set for January 2025.

Go, who raised concerns early on, emphasized the need to prioritize these funds for healthcare services, particularly for the poor.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining PhilHealth’s reserve funds and criticized the organization for failing to fully utilize resources for expanded health benefits.

Go, as chair of the Senate Committee on Health, plans to hold a Senate hearing in November to address this issue further with PhilHealth leaders.

He also urged PhilHealth to enhance its benefit packages, including coverage for high-cost diseases, outpatient services, and assistive devices, to reduce patients’ out-of-pocket expenses.
