Fencing sensation Sam Catantan has made history by becoming the first Filipino fencer to qualify for the Olympics in 32 years.
She secured her spot for the upcoming Paris Games after a triumphant win at the 2024 Asia-Oceanic Zonal Olympic Qualifier for women’s foil in UAE.
This victory is particularly significant as Catantan had suffered an ACL tear last year, which had previously hindered her performance at the 2023 SEA Games.
Catantan is the 12th Filipino to qualify for the Olympics, joining a roster of fellow athletes including EJ Obiena, Nesthy Petecio, Aira Villegas, Eumir Marcial, Vanessa Sarno, Elreen Ando, John Ceniza, Carlos Yulo, Alea Finnegan, Levi Jung-Ruivivar, and Joanie Delgaco.
