Vice President Sara Duterte accused former House Speaker Martin Romualdez of accepting bribes from illegal gambling, on top of alleged kickbacks from flood control projects.
Duterte claimed she had heard of “suitcases of cash” deliveries since she assumed office in 2022 and cited Romualdez’s supposed involvement in a 2023 Delaware case tied to Okada Manila’s parent company, though no ruling was made against him.
Romualdez strongly denied the allegations, calling them “pure fiction” and insisting he was neither investigated nor accused in the Delaware proceedings.
He countered by questioning Duterte’s credibility, pointing out her own impeachment over alleged misuse of public funds.
Their latest exchange highlights the widening rift within the Marcos-Duterte alliance as corruption scandals continue to roil Congress.
