Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe social media reports claiming he was critically ill and hospitalized last December.
He described the false posts as part of an “orchestrated campaign” by political opponents and said he has an idea who may be behind them.
The online reports even circulated photos of him in a hospital bed and falsely claimed he had passed away, which his brother, Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, already denied.
Remulla said he is pursuing the investigation to hold the responsible parties accountable and prevent similar incidents in the future.
“If they are doing this now, they will do it again,” he warned, stressing the need to address the issue head-on.
