Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla has been shortlisted for the position of Ombudsman despite facing pending criminal complaints, the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) announced on Monday.
The JBC submitted to President Marcos a list of seven nominees to succeed former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, whose term ended on July 27.
Other nominees include former COA chairman Michael Aguinaldo, SC Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan, PPC chairman Stephen Cruz, retired SC justice Mario Lopez, Deputy Executive Secretary Anna Liza Logan, and Sandiganbayan Justice Michael Musngi.
Remulla, who did not take part in the deliberations as an ex officio member, said he had already secured clearance from the Ombudsman before the council’s final vote.
The President is mandated to appoint the new Ombudsman within three months of the post’s vacancy.
